Gangneung (강릉) is a small city on the East coast of South Korea. The quaint city gained international recognition in 2018 as one of the hosts of the Winter Olympics. Visitors to Korea might assume the best places to visit are Seoul, Busan, or Jeju. However, I think Gangneung is a great place for tourists to check out. It makes a great day trip, but also offers enough for an entire weekend!
In this video, we take the premium bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Gangneung Bus Terminal. The bus is safe, comfortable, and has some great amenities, including a personal TV screen! The three hour ride goes by quickly as it is so comfy.
We stop at a few places during our trip. Our first trip to to Daegwallyeong Sheep Farm (대관령 양떼목장). This private ranch is the home to over 300 sheep. Take a walk along the circular pathway. Once you reach the top, you’ll be greeted with stunning views of Gangneung as well as the East Sea. Be sure to check out some of the delicious foods offered by the exit!
We then eat some amazing food for cheap! Hanjeongsik is a traditonal Korean meal with dozens of dishes. The spicy pork here was excellent! At the end of the meal, our stomachs were absolutely stuffed! However, this meal didn’t break the bank, as it only cost 10,000 KRW! It’s a great deal!
After eating, it was time for coffee! Bohemian Roasters is a popular cafe in Gangneung. The owner is one of the first certified baristas in South Korea! They even roast the beans on site! The cafe also has outside seating, and offers stunning views of the nearby area. This is a popular tourist attraction in Gangneung, so make sure you visit it!
Finally, we head to Jumujin Beach where we check out the filming location of a popular Korean drama. “Goblin” (도깨비) shot a very famous scene here. If you love K-dramas, this should be on your Korea bucket list!
In summary, Gangneung (located in Gangwon-do) is a cute city with a lot to offer! We couldn’t possibly fit in everything into one video, so you should take a trip out of Seoul and check out this great place
