Haunted houses are awesome. Period. Especially in America. That’s why I was so excited to find out that Korea had an impressively scary place as well.
Granted…if you don’t like scary, this place is not for you.
But if you do, you’ve gotta check it out!
Gwangmyeong is basically known for one thing: Ikea…but there’s an awesome summer getaway for you to beat the heat. It’s called the 광명동굴 (Gwangmyeong Cave).
This used to be an actual coal-mining cave for people to… you know… mine coal and make a living. But since then, the coal industry in Korea has died and so has coal mines. But this area decided to make this into a tourist destination. Check out the coal mines that drop from 30+ degrees outside the mines to 10 degrees in the insides of this pretty neat place. They’ve got caves (duh), but also some really cool fish take aquariums, a wine cellar, and a…yes…HAUNTED HOUSE! It’s awesome, for real.
You won’t believe how dark it is. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to visit a haunted house (because they’re not always that scary in Korea), but even the part-time employees were out to scare the s*** outta you. Get there and pay the 5,000 won to get your heart rate up…it’s worth it!
