With the growing popularity of the Korean Wave, which includes K-pop and Korean dramas, Korean language is also becoming the more language to learn. Increasing number of people, who are interested in Korean culture also means that there is going to be more people who want to learn the language itself.
Even though Korean language is quite complex, learning the basics should not be a problem to anyone. Hangeul is a very convenient alphabet and even though it might seem confusing at first, once you understand the system, it is super easy to learn. Grammar might become more complicated in your further studies though.
I was always fascinated by the beauty of Korean language and I started learning Korean when I first entered university. Even though I am studying language for about 5 years on and off, I never put too much effort into understanding it on the deeper level.
Even now, when I go to a Korean countryside, it is very hard for me to understand what people are talking about… Why, you ask? It is because they use Satoori!
Satoori is a Korean word, which means dialect. Even though the formal Korean language is understandable all around the country, it is mostly used in Seoul and different dialects are used in the different regions.
My husband comes from a small town in North Gyeongsang Province in South Korea, I was very curious about what dialect does he use. In this video I am trying to guess what some distinct phrases in this dialect mean and how to use them. It was very fun and I really learned a lot! i hope my mother in law will enjoy hearing me speak in satoori the next time I visit them!
What is your favorite Satoori? Leave us the comment below^^
