Hey everyone!
It’s been a while since I’ve done a standard video blog, and I wanted to let you know what I’ve been doing outside YouTube.
The video is of three parts of my Wednesday. First, I wake up at 6am, leave no later than 7am to get from Hapjeong Station to Yangjae Station, to then transfer to the bus before getting to the EBS radio studios south of the main Gangnam area in Yangjae 1(il)-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. It’s a bit of a hike just to be a guest for 30 minutes, but that’s how radio works. It’s one of the sacrifices you have to make to get your foot in the door, practice, and show off what you have to the producers in hopes for my gigs in the future. But to be honest, I love that corner. I just talk about vacations with the host of “EBS Morning Special,” Caelyn! I also go there on Thursdays to record the Saturday show, but “lucky” for me, that recording starts at 9am, not 8:30…
Then I head back closer to my house and go to the TBS (Seoul Traffic Broadcasting) radio station in Sangam-dong – that’s where the World Cup Stadium is. I’ve got to create a 2 hour show from scratch, but I get the most freedom there, as the show is only on the TBS application and I am my own producer, which is a lot of fun. If you have the chance, download the TBS app and listen to Line Six from 6pm to 8pm every day!
Finally, Arirang TV had a shoot that night. It’s not every Wednesday, but they do happen at random times during the week, and it creates quite the mess of a schedule. Check out us on “Globetrotters” every Friday at 10:30am. We’re usually the last 7-10 minutes of the show.
But the truth is I love all of what I do now, regardless of how tiring it is. I only hate that after-work feeling when the headaches come, but while I’m working, it’s a blast.
If you’re curious about the best way to “get your foot in the door,” I’d recommend joining the TBS eFM quiz show called the Qube. Do a great job there, show off your speaking skills, and let the producer or writer know that you’d be interested in coming in as a guest if there are any openings on the regular programs. Email tbsqube@gmail.com to participate. That’s the best advice I can give for now.
If you are curious about anything related to the media industry, feel free to leave a question in the comment sections of my YouTube videos. I’d love to help point you in the right direction. I’m not super successful or famous, but I can help get you on the right track.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. If you got to the end, congrats on getting the “pro-tip” – seriously, email them!
Have a great day!
Alex
