Growing Up Black & Korean | My Blasian Family Story | 한국 혼혈인

What is it like growing up Black and Korean? My life has been one where I’ve seen the beauty of the divergence of two different cultures under one roof. I’ve been fortunate to grow up in a household with a Korean mother and Black father. Naturally, I was exposed to different elements of both cultures and those elements have shaped me into who I am.

In this very special video, I had the opportunity to visit my hometown of Fayetteville, NC to reflect on things of the past. I visited where I used to live, go to school, and many other memorable places. You’ll get the chance to come with me to these different places that were a huge part of my growing up years. You’ll also get a chance to see how Korean culture and Black culture were a part of my life through Home videos and pictures.

This video is about my journey growing up as a mixed race person. No Journey begins without a starting point, so i begin the video by introducing my 할머니 and my grandmother on my Dad’s side. These two ladies were a huge part of my life growing up and I can’t start my story without them. I then talk about the story of my parents in the early 1980s and how they fell in love and got married. And then shortly after, I was born!

I walk you through my life through various pictures and home videos of me during my younger years. You’ll see clips of me in Taekwondo, me and my sister involved in Korean church, and me getting into music growing up.

Throughout the timeline of my life in this video, you’ll be able to see how Korean culture and Black culture played a big part in my life. This video is dedicated to my 할머니 and to my father, who are no longer with us physically, but have left a lasting legacy to me and my family. I hope this video can inspire you in some way and add value to your lives!
